German Network of Educational Research Data (VerbundFDB)

The BMBF-funded network "Forschungsdaten Bildung" (Research Data Education) aims to make the growing number of different research data for research purposes more accessible as empirical educational research is expanded.

In order to secure and process the data, which are collected especially in educational research, three FDZs at different institutes have joined together to form German Network of Educational Research Data (VerbundFDB): Institute for Educational Quality Improvement (IQB), Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education (DIPF) and GESIS - Leibniz Institute for Social Sciences. Other RDCs and research institutes in the field of educational research form a network with the VerbundFDB, which also includes the FDZ-DZHW.

Each institution of the network contributes special expertise and will archive the heterogeneous empirical data accordingly: At the IQB, it is primarily data from achievement tests, at the DIPF it is videos of lessons, the FDZ-DZHW collects quantitative and qualitative data from the field of higher education and science research, and GESIS collects general survey data.

The research data can be submitted centrally and will then be archived and processed decentrally according to the respective expertise. A central database enables researchers to gain an overview of the available data in educational research. Consultancy and training courses on data management complete the offer.
